President Donald Trump wrote on Truth Social on Tuesday, October 27, 2026: "In short order, we will be officially BANNING the term, "AI/Artificial Intelligence," in all relevant documents, and everything else, due to its inaccuracy." He called the term "a very bad and inaccurate name" and named his preferred replacement: "SI (Super Intelligence)."
The post is a statement, not a published policy. As of early Thursday, October 29, we found no new executive order, memorandum or implementation guidance tied to it on the White House presidential actions page or in the Federal Register. A September executive order already directs federal agencies to use "Super Intelligence" in place of "Artificial Intelligence" in many official documents.
What the post says
Trump posted at 12:14 p.m. Eastern time (9:14 a.m. Pacific) on October 27. The full text reads:
"When will The Wall Street Journal start calling Artificial Intelligence (AI), a very bad and inaccurate name, SI (Super Intelligence), the name which virtually everyone else is using, or soon will be. In short order, we will be officially BANNING the term, "AI/Artificial Intelligence," in all relevant documents, and everything else, due to its inaccuracy. Thank you for your attention to this matter. President DONALD J. TRUMP"
The post gives no date and names no order or agency.
Reuters reported that Trump "said he would ban the term artificial intelligence in documents and everything else, as he questioned why the Wall Street Journal was not using his preferred term, super intelligence." The Hill also reported the post the same day.
What is already in force: Executive Order 14434
The post follows an order that is already published. Trump signed Executive Order 14434, "Inaugurating the Era of Super Intelligence," on September 29, 2026. The Federal Register published it on October 2, 2026, at 91 FR 63129.
Its policy sentence reads: "It is therefore the policy of my Administration that, to the maximum extent permitted by law, the executive branch shall use the terms "Super Intelligence" and "SI" in place of "Artificial Intelligence" and "AI" and will not acknowledge the usage of "Artificial Intelligence" and "AI" in any applicable setting."
The order's main terms, in its own words:
- Who and where: "executive departments and agencies (agencies) shall use "Super Intelligence" and "SI" in place of "Artificial Intelligence" and "AI" in official correspondence, public communications, websites, reports, policy documents, and other non-statutory documents within the executive branch."
- What it leaves alone: "Nothing in this section requires the alteration of previously issued regulations, Presidential actions, contracts, grants, or other historical documents."
- Definition: "Super Intelligence" and "SI" mean "the technologies and systems encompassed by the term "artificial intelligence" as defined in section 9401(3) of title 15, United States Code."
- Next step: within 60 days of the order, the Assistant to the President for Science and Technology "shall submit to the President proposed legislative language to establish a Federal definition of "Super Intelligence" and "SI"."
The order applies to executive departments and agencies. The October 27 post goes further in its wording, saying "all relevant documents, and everything else," but it does not say how or when that would happen.

How agencies are applying it
At least one department has issued detailed instructions. Defense One reported on October 20 that the State Department sent an unclassified cable, obtained by Government Executive and Nextgov/FCW, telling staff to use "Super Intelligence," or "SI," in new letters, emails, public messages, websites, reports, remarks and policy documents, subject to legal exceptions.
"All official titles and the names of Department governance bodies, systems, platforms, inventories, and programs must use SI in place of AI," the cable states, according to Defense One. The outlet reported that contracts and grants are excluded pending further guidance, that previously published documents should not be revised solely to change the term, and that the American AI Exports Program is now the American SI Exports Program.
Earlier statements
The Hill also reported an earlier statement on the term. At the United Nations General Assembly in September, Trump said, according to The Hill: "The use of the word artificial makes intelligence sound fake." He continued: "It is not fake. It's actually amazing."
What has not been published
We checked the White House presidential actions page and the Federal Register on October 29, 2026. The newest White House entry was an October 28 proclamation on imports of robotics and industrial machinery. The newest executive order in the Federal Register was Executive Order 14438, "Decreasing Housing Costs for the American People," published October 28. Neither source listed a new executive order, memorandum or guidance on the AI or SI terminology after the October 27 post.
For now, Executive Order 14434 is the published order on the term. Its section 3(b) sets the next deadline: proposed legislative language from the science adviser, due 60 days from September 29, 2026.
