Amazon announced five new Alexa devices on October 28, 2026: the Alexa Photo Frame, the Echo Time smart alarm clock, a new Echo Dot, the Echo Studio with Home Camera, and the Echo Show 16. TechCrunch calls two of them, the Photo Frame and Echo Time, new kinds of hardware. All five run the latest version of Alexa+, the generative AI version of the assistant.
The hardware is the headline, but the more useful question for buyers is what the AI actually does on each device, and what it needs from you to do it.
The five devices and their prices
Amazon's launch roundup lists these US starting prices:
- Echo Dot: $99.99. Ships now. Two Kids versions start at $109.99 and include a year of Amazon Kids+.
- Echo Time: $199.99. Available now. Amazon Kids Echo Time starts at $209.99 with a year of Kids+.
- Alexa Photo Frame: $199.99 in Black, or $229 in real Birch or Walnut wood.
- Echo Studio with Home Camera: $249.99. Ships now. The Echo Studio without a camera is $219.99.
- Echo Show 16: $499.99, or $569.99 with the Nanomatte anti-glare screen. Preorders are open, shipping starts later this year, and Amazon says preorder buyers get $100 off.

According to The Verge, Amazon swapped its usual large fall showcase for a series of smaller October launches, including new hardware from AI wearable startup Bee, and showed these devices to journalists at a small event in New York this week. Panos Panay, Amazon's senior vice president of devices, Alexa, and Leo, also teased two more launches still to come, one from Ring and some "Echo on the Go" news.
Alexa Photo Frame: AI that picks your photos
The Photo Frame has a 10-inch anti-glare touchscreen and syncs from Amazon Photos, which includes unlimited photo storage for Prime members. Amazon calls it the first photo frame with Alexa built in.
The AI part is photo selection and search. Amazon says Alexa+ picks pictures "based on faces, time, and sentiment," prefers shots where people are smiling and the lighting is good, matches the season, and skips screenshots and receipts. You can also ask for photos by description, such as "show me photos from the trip to the beach with mom." Amazon says Alexa can also find "serendipitous pairs," for example a child in nearly the same pose years apart, and you can add voice notes to any photo.
One detail matters for gift buyers: Amazon says certain features require Alexa+, which is included with Prime, and every frame comes with 90 days of Alexa+.
Echo Time: a bedside clock with sleep sensing
Echo Time has a 3.2-inch circular touchscreen and no camera. It has an optional smart alarm. Amazon says it detects when you are in lighter sleep and wakes you "anywhere within 10 to 60 minutes of your set alarm," with no wearable needed.
The sensing comes from Amazon's Omnisense technology. Per Amazon, room temperature sensors and presence detection "build your sleep routine," while ultrasound detects breathing and proximity. Amazon says sleep sensing is opt-in and can be switched off in the Alexa app or by muting the microphones. The display also brightens slowly before the alarm to mimic a sunrise.
With Alexa+, you can give a plain request such as needing to be ready by 8 a.m. and not forgetting your lunch, and Amazon says Alexa will set the alarm and add a reminder. Echo Time has earned the National Sleep Foundation's SleepMark designation, according to Amazon.
Echo Studio with Home Camera: Alexa can see
Amazon calls the Echo Studio its best-sounding speaker, and this version adds a camera. Amazon says Alexa can "see and understand what's in front of the camera," for example explaining the rules on a board game box you hold up, or recognizing a cereal box so you can reorder it. Live View in the Alexa app lets you check the room while you are away. Amazon says pairing with compatible Fire TV devices for video calls is coming soon.
For households that care about privacy, this is a device to think about carefully. It puts a camera and visual AI in a room where people spend time. Amazon says a dedicated button turns off the microphones and camera, a built-in LED turns on when it streams images or video to the cloud, and the camera-free Echo Studio stays on sale.
Echo Dot and Echo Show 16
The new Echo Dot adds a built-in smart home hub and an eero Wi-Fi extender that Amazon says adds up to 1,000 square feet of coverage to an existing eero network. It uses Amazon's AZ3 chip with a new AI Accelerator for on-device AI, which Amazon says improves conversation detection and filters background noise.
The Echo Show 16 has a 16-inch screen, Fire TV built in, and a 13-megapixel camera with night vision, a first for an Echo Show. Screen Styles turn it into a family organizer, a photo frame, or a smart home dashboard with a new Alexa Home Map. Apple is entering the same category with its first smart display, Apple HomeView. The Verge reports that some of these software features will start on the Show 16 and later reach existing Show devices.

What changed in Alexa+ itself
Amazon says every device ships with the latest Alexa, which "reasons more deeply, asks clarifying questions," and handles multi-step requests across more sources. Conversations are now saved as Cards that you can pick up on Echo devices, in the Alexa app, or on Alexa.com. Panay said Amazon had "opened up Alexa Plus' brain a little bit more," and the updated Alexa+ can do "deeper research," per The Verge.
Amazon also claims that "hundreds of millions of customers" use the new Alexa experiences and talk to Alexa two to three times more. Amazon's post does not say how it measured that.
Why it matters
This launch puts a generative AI assistant into everyday home objects: a bedside clock, a photo frame, two speakers and a display. On each one, Alexa+ supplies the AI features.
The useful features (photo picking, sleep sensing, visual recognition) depend on Alexa+ having access to your photos, your room and your voice. Before buying, check two things. First, whether you have Prime, since Amazon says certain features need Alexa+. Second, which features use cameras or sensors, and where the off switches are. Amazon says every Echo has a microphone off button and visual indicators when Alexa is listening.
