Apple released iOS 27.2 on October 26, and most of what is new is about Siri AI, which Apple calls "a completely reimagined version of Siri." Siri can now remember earlier conversations, read from more of your personal data, and speak five more languages. There is also one new setting for keeping apps out of Siri's reach. Here is what changed, which devices get it, and where it still does not work.
What is new in Siri AI
Apple's iOS 27.2 release notes, published in full by Ars Technica and MacRumors, list five Siri AI changes:
- Conversation recall. Siri AI "can recall your past conversations, so you can ask Siri about something it told you before, like the restaurants it recommended last week."
- More personal sources. Siri can now draw on photos attached in Messages, Calendar event attendees and your voicemails. Apple also promises "better results" from Safari history and Reading List.
- Excluded Apps. One setting now controls which apps Siri, Search and suggestions can access. MacRumors notes that the older App Access feature made you exclude apps one at a time.
- Granular text selection. You can select and copy part of a Siri response instead of the whole thing.
- Five new languages. French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish join English.

Why memory and more data sources matter
Recall means you can refer back to an earlier answer. Apple's own example is asking about restaurants Siri suggested a week ago.
The new data sources push the same way. Siri can now use Calendar event attendees and your voicemails when it answers, so a question about who was at a meeting or what a caller said has more to draw on. Ars Technica introduces Excluded Apps "on the flip side" of that wider access. It puts the choice of which apps Siri, Search and suggestions can access in one setting. If there is an app you do not want feeding Siri or suggestions, that setting is the one to check after you update.
Which iPhones and devices get it
Per Apple's release notes, Siri AI on iPhone needs an iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, or any iPhone 16 model or later. Other parts of iOS 27.2 work on every iPhone that runs iOS 27, according to Engadget.
Apple's announcement says Siri AI is still labeled beta, and is available in iOS 27.2, iPadOS 27.2, macOS 27.2, watchOS 27.2 and visionOS 27.2 on an Apple Intelligence-enabled device set to a supported language. Ars reports that macOS Golden Gate 27.2 gets the same Siri memory and languages, and that the Apple Watch update is mostly the same Siri changes.

Where Siri AI still does not work
Apple lists several limits:
- The EU. Siri AI "is currently unavailable in the EU in iOS, iPadOS, and watchOS." Apple says it is "working constructively with the EU in an attempt to find a path forward."
- Mainland China. The iOS release notes say Siri AI "is not available in the EU or mainland China."
- Children. Siri AI is not available for users under 13.
- More languages later. Chinese (traditional), Norwegian, Turkish and Vietnamese are due "by the end of the year."
There is a daily limit, and a paid tier is coming
One line in Apple's announcement matters for heavy users. Apple Intelligence features that rely on server-side models, "including but not limited to Siri AI," intelligent photo editing tools, Image Playground and AFM 3 Cloud models in Shortcuts, are "subject to daily usage limits." Apple says the limits "may vary by feature, request complexity, system demand" and other factors, and that "expanded access to such features will be available for a fee in the future." Apple has not given a price or a date.
Other AI changes in iOS 27.2
- Suggestions in Messages. Tappable shortcuts appear based on the conversation, such as adding a dinner invite to Calendar or tracking a package. MacRumors says you can pick which suggestion types you want: Calendar, Reminders, Notes, Maps, and Flights and Packages. It also reports the feature was in the iOS 27 beta but removed before launch.
- SynthID watermarks. Apple now supports Google's SynthID watermarking "to help identify whether an image was generated or modified with generative tools in Photos and Image Playground." MacRumors says watermarks are added when you use Extend and Reframe in Photos and for large Clean Up edits, and that you can check an image with Google's SynthID Detector website.
The update also fixes more than 160 security vulnerabilities, none of them actively exploited, per MacRumors.
The bottom line
If you have a supported iPhone and live outside the EU and mainland China, iOS 27.2 makes Siri AI remember what you talked about and read more of your personal data, and gives you one place to keep apps out of it. If you speak French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese or Spanish, this is the first release where Siri AI works in your language. Keep the daily usage limits in mind: Apple has said paid expanded access is coming, but not when or for how much.
