Anthropic Implements Embedded Text Watermarks and C2PA Provenance Under EU AI Act

Anthropic has begun embedding machine-readable watermarks directly into text generated by its Claude models alongside cryptographic provenance metadata in generated files. The rollout formalizes Anthropic's commitments under the European Union AI Act's Article 50(2) Code of Practice on Transparency of AI-Generated Content, applying universally across consumer and enterprise interfaces worldwide. The marking system operates at the model level rather than the application layer. For text generatio

Developers Deploy Open-Source Workarounds to Strip Claude's Statistical Text Watermark

Days after Anthropic introduced global text watermarking for Claude to comply with the European Union's AI Act transparency requirements, open-source developers and independent researchers have released multiple tools and pipelines aimed at stripping or perturbing the embedded statistical signatures. The rapid emergence of evasion techniques underscores the structural challenges of applying robust watermarking to natural language generation without introducing perceptible latency, semantic dist

Anthropic Rolls Out Global AI Text Watermarking for Claude to Comply with EU AI Act

Anthropic has started deploying model-level text watermarking across Claude to meet the regulatory requirements of the European Union AI Act. The company confirmed that because it currently lacks infrastructure to reliably partition model inference behavior by geographic jurisdiction, watermarking is being applied globally across all Claude web products and API endpoints. The update follows the formalization of the EU Code of Practice on Transparency of AI-Generated Content, signed in July 2026

Anthropic's Claude text watermark goes global, with built-in limits

Anthropic Will Watermark All Claude Output in the EU to Meet AI Act Rules

Anthropic announced Monday it will embed invisible watermarks in text and attach C2PA-signed provenance metadata to files generated by future Claude models released in the European Union. The company framed the move as compliance with the EU AI Act's transparency requirements for general-purpose AI systems. The watermarks will apply worldwide to output from covered models across the Claude Platform (API), Claude chat, Claude Code, Claude Cowork, and Claude Tag, as well as third-party providers

OpenAI maps its safety practices to the EU AI Act GPAI Code

OpenAI has published details of how its safety, security, and transparency work aligns with the EU AI Act's General-Purpose AI (GPAI) Code of Practice, as enforcement of the regulation's transparency provisions began on August 2. The company contributed to and endorsed both the GPAI Code of Practice and the separate Code of Practice on Transparency of AI-Generated Content. The GPAI Code sets requirements for transparency, safety, and security across general-purpose models sold or deployed in th
