Stability AI Secures 6M Series B Backed by Major Music Labels and Electronic Arts

Stability AI has secured $76 million in a Series B financing round backed by a syndicate of major entertainment and gaming publishers. The investor roster includes the world's three largest record labels—Universal Music Group (UMG), Warner Music Group (WMG), and Sony Music Entertainment—alongside video game publisher Electronic Arts (EA), AMD Ventures, and Pacific Alliance Ventures.

The transaction marks a structural evolution for the company behind Stable Diffusion, which has shifted toward building domain-specific creative generative models trained directly on licensed partner catalogs rather than scraping open-web datasets.

Capital Structure and Board Appointments

The $76 million round brings total capital raised under Chief Executive Officer Prem Akkaraju to $232 million since his appointment in 2024. Akkaraju joined the firm alongside an initial restructuring round backed by Sean Parker and filmmaker James Cameron.

Individual participants in the Series B include returning investors Sean Parker and former Google Chief Executive Eric Schmidt. Institutional backers Coatue Management, Greycroft, and Kadmos Capital also participated in the round. As part of the investment terms, Coatue co-founder Thomas Laffont has joined Stability AI's board of directors.

Commercial IP Licensing and Model Deployments

The equity investments follow a series of bilateral commercial agreements negotiated between Stability AI and entertainment rights holders over the past year. In gaming, Stability AI partnered with Electronic Arts to co-develop generative tooling for production workflows. In music, the company signed data licensing pacts with UMG and WMG to train audio generation systems on proprietary catalogs.

In May 2026, Stability AI released Stable Audio 3.0, an audio architecture trained exclusively on licensed recordings and metadata. The transition toward licensed data sources comes amid widespread litigation and copyright disputes across the generative AI sector regarding the ingestion of copyrighted materials for foundation model pre-training.

By bringing primary rights holders directly onto its cap table and board, Stability AI aims to establish a commercial model where intellectual property owners license their assets for bespoke model training while maintaining direct governance over downstream generative tooling.
