Digs Raises 5.3M Series A Led by Builders FirstSource for Residential Construction AI

Digs, a startup developing AI software for residential construction management, has raised a $25.3 million Series A funding round led by building materials supplier Builders FirstSource. Alongside the equity investment, the two companies entered into a five-year commercial partnership to deploy Digs' document intelligence and digital twin platform across Builders FirstSource's distribution network.

The Series A brings Digs' total funding to more than $47 million, following seed and pre-Series A rounds backed by Fuse, Flying Fish, Oregon Venture Fund, and Cascade Seed Fund. Founded in 2022 by Ryan Fink and Ty Frackiewicz, Digs operates on a software-as-a-service model, supporting residential homebuilders across all 50 U.S. states.

Construction Document Intelligence and 3D Digital Twins

Residential construction projects typically generate fragmented documentation, including 2D CAD drawings, architectural blueprints, trade specifications, municipal permits, change orders, supplier invoices, and warranty contracts. Digs applies machine learning models to ingest unstructured build files, cross-reference specification tables with geometric blueprints, and construct a unified project knowledge graph.

Digs Blueprint Ingestion and Construction Data Pipeline

Core technical capabilities of the platform include:

  • Automated Takeoffs and Diagramming: The system parses architectural schematics to extract measurements, material quantities, and component requirements, reducing manual estimating effort during pre-construction planning.
  • Multimodal Collaboration: General contractors, subcontractors, and suppliers interact with a shared digital workspace where change orders and architectural revisions update project specifications in real time.
  • 3D Digital Twin Hand-Off: Upon project completion, the software compiles build telemetry, installed appliance records, structural documentation, and warranty terms into an interactive digital twin transferred to the property owner for ongoing maintenance management.

Commercial Integration Across Builders FirstSource Network

Through the commercial agreement, Builders FirstSource plans to integrate Digs' software directly into its digital supply platform. Builders FirstSource operates roughly 565 distribution and manufacturing facilities across 43 states, supplying structural lumber, trusses, millwork, and pre-assembled building components to professional homebuilders across 91 of the top 100 U.S. metropolitan markets.

The deployment provides Digs with distribution access across Builders FirstSource's client base of approximately 140,000 professional homebuilders, embedding document automation and estimating tools directly into the procurement pipeline for residential building supplies.
